Michelle J Parker FWCB, LWCB Master Blacksmith from Droitwich Spa, Worcestershire has run her own business forging steel for more than twenty years. Michelle is the first professional female blacksmith to be appointed as a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Blacksmiths, in their 700 year history since being incorporated by prescription by King Edward I in 1325
Most people see steel as being cold, hard and lifeless, but something encouraged Michelle to look beyond that and see what could be done when steel met fire. She soon discovered that steel took on a completely different character, no longer cold and lifeless, but full of life and movement. Having completed an HND in Three Dimensional Design in Blacksmithing, she works alone designing and making quality hot forged steel work. She was awarded a Bronze Medal from the Worshipful Company of Blacksmiths and the Freedom of the City of London in 2007. Michelle was the first professional female blacksmith to become a Liveryman of the Worshipful company and won the Women's World Forging Champion at XIX European Biennial Wrought Iron Exhibition of the Art of Forged Iron held at Stia, Italy, in 2011.This year October 2014 she was awarded the LWCB from the Worshipful Company of Blacksmiths. She exhibits at RHS Shows and has contributed sculptures to several gold medal winning gardens at Chelsea, including Hardy's Cottage Plants. She regularly exhibits at The Malvern Garden Show and other events throughout the country. Based in Worcestershire, Michelle accepts commissions from across the UK and overseas.
